  1. Hi Rodney! I really don’t like reading. Especially if it is a long book, I easily lose my focus and attention to it. However it is just recent that I learned reading is really important. I like the part when you pointed out that reading teaches you new things. This is a great thing because as we grow we need to develop every aspect of our life right? Thanks for this informative post. I will definitely give more time in reading from now on.

    1. Thank you, John. Reading definitely teaches us new things and it develops every aspect of our life. Try reading a few minutes each day, it will contribute to a better you. All the best!

  2. I really enjoyed reading your post on the benefits of reading. I agree with all the topics you hit on especially point 3, 4, and 5. It is very important to read, and not just as a child but as an adult as well.

I would also have to say that reading also helps you become a better writer. As you read different styles and understand the significance, you can incorporate them into your own writing as needed.

    1. Thank you, Debra. Sometimes we feel that reading stops when we are no longer children and no longer in school. It helps us in all areas of our lives including writing.

  3. Hello there Rodney , I remember the exact same advice from my mother when I was a kid.Hopefully I was amazed by books and I was reading like a maniac.

I was reading almost everything as I was growing , from books to magazines , newspapers .. everything.Still I am reading all the time.I can’t express how much it helped me.

Nice breakdown of the benefits , reading is opening new horizons for the mind.

I really can’t think of any reason that could point reading as a bad feeling … unless someone is reading how to kill or how to deceit people.

    Thanks for a nice read.

    1. Hi Tasos,

How can we argue with our mothers? Almost every advice they gave us, they were right and your mother’s advice is correct even today. We are who we are largely because of their advice. Thank you for your comments. Happy reading!

  4. this is one of the greatest niches and articles! i used to read every day in my life since school ..i spent my vacation in the libraries ..i bought books and novels and read them by the beach,..and i still like and enjoy reading but whole revolution of the internet and social media took a lot of the time that i used to spent on my reading !!
i wish i could return back to my reading habits!
    thanks,
    Sarah

    1. Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your comments. So good to know that you read a lot over the years. I do agree with you that the internet and social media takes a lot of our time. May I encourage you to consider getting a Kindle?

  5. Hey there Rodney, I get your point. I could not agree with you more on the benefits. I also identify with you on the counselling on the subject as a child. Although I know the importance though, it still is not a fond pastime for me even if on an interesting subject. In spite knowing this I have a hard time beating myself into subjection
