Latest posts by Rodney (see all)

Every now and then,we find ourselves in need of some sort of accessory for the many devices. If you are asking what accessories do I need for the Kindle, this article, will answer that question. Here I share about some of the most helpful Kindle accessories.

The accessories for a device may include basics such as: chargers, adapters, covers and screen guards. These are there to protect your devices. Either way, it is a tried, tested, and common knowledge that accessories are fundamental in keeping our devices safe and in mint condition. Like most electronic devices such as as your iPhone, tablet, laptop etc., there are various accessories available for the Kindle. There are five accessories, six if you charging the Kindle using the cigarette lighter in your vehicle.

Kindle Accessories

USBCable

USB Cable – Because of all the charging, the cable is a must-have accessory. Sometimes with all the handling, this accessory tends to wear easily. One can break

the joints, the connection between the plug and the cable easily.

If your original cable gets bad, make sure you get a new one with a 2.0 USB speed. For the fun and stylish people, cables come in different colors, too, apart from black
and white.

ForKindle

Power Adapter – According to amazon: The Official Amazon 9W, 1.8A adapter charges Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ in under 5 hours, Kindle Fire HD 7″ in under 4 hours, and Kindle Fire in under 3 hours
Also the approved charger for Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle; charges Kindle Paperwhite in 4 hours or less and Kindle in 3 hours or less.

There are now 12W chargers available that offer an even faster charge that offers a smaller package with flip out prongs. The higher the power (W aka Watts) the faster the charging circuit can work

Screen Protectors – The readability of the Kindle depends greatly on the quality of the screen. Scratches on screens can occur and are worrisome and unsightly. If your life is a constant rush like trying to fit in cooking, dishes, and laundry with meeting project deadlines and catching up on half-read books most days, then having a screen protector is a must.

You can get them in varieties of matte finish or clear finish. The matte finish version is preferred because it provides some additional anti-glare functionality.

KindleCover

Covers – They come in different styles, colors, and materials. This is also another definitely essential item for your Kindle that can save and protect it.

If you are concerned about dropping your kindle, then a cover is a must. No matter how careful you are, accidents do happen and it will happen even to the most careful of users. A good cover can be your best friend in these situations.

If you get a leather cover, it will give your Kindle that elegant and sophisticated look. You also get covers that can be converted into stands or has bands for added grip. There are many choices. This will be added insurance in addition to screen protectors for your screen and can even assist you for a hands-free reading experience.

How to get free ebooks for Kindle

Latest posts by Rodney (see all)

Although the Kindle is tightly tied to Amazon’s ecosystem, one can download other reading apps to increase your library and in this post, I will show you how to get free ebooks for kindle

With amazon’s Kindle being a premium ebook reader it is no wonder it is so tightly tied to Amazon’s ecosystem.

So how do we get free ebooks for Kindle?

We do this by using a bit of free software. Ebooks from EPUB, Mobi and PDF formats can be moved over to the Kindle lickety-split. You can do this using the following:

Email

This seems to be the easiest way to put books on your Kindle. This is how you do this:

  • Go to www.amazon.com/myk to get your Kindle’s email address.
  • Once there, tap on “Your Devices,” thereafter choose the relevant Kindle from the gallery below. Next to “Email,” you will find the Kindle’s email address.
  • Next you will need to click “Settings” and scroll all the way down to the “approved personal document e-mail list.”
  • Click “add a new approved e-mail address,” and add the email address you intend to send your books from.

It is important to remember that your Kindle needs to be connected to Wi-Fi or 3G network for this to work. This can be done wherever there is Wi-fi.

Mobi Format

Books that are in the Mobi format are already readable by the Kindle. Using e-mail, attach the Mobi file and send it to your Kindle’s email address (with any subject, and no body in the email), and it should appear on your Kindle shortly. You can also drag and drop the file onto your Kindle if you attach the device to your PC with a USB cable.

PDF Format

The good thing is that Amazon can automatically convert PDFs into the Kindle. With this you get two formatting options.

Option 1

If you want your Kindle to display every page in the PDF as if it were a graphic, just email the .pdf file to your Kindle’s address without a subject line.

By doing this, it will maintain the formatting and graphics, but the font size may be too small to read. If you are okay with this kind of formatting, you can also drag and drop the file onto your Kindle if you attach the device to your PC with a USB cable.

Option 2

Attach the .pdf file to an email, with the subject line “convert”—just that word. Send it to your Kindle email address and your PDF will be converted into a Mobi file, where you can control the font size and formatting. The graphics will still be in there as well, but you’ll lose the layout of the original PDF.

EPUB Format

EPUB is a common ebook format around the Web, but the Kindle can’t read it natively. The good news is that you can convert .epub files to Mobi files for the Kindle to read.

So what software is required to do this?

Calibre

Calibre Software

The software is called Calibre. Calibre can reformat almost any kind of ebook for almost any ebook reader, although cracking the copy protection on books purchased from Amazon or certain other stores is forbidden.

This software is available for both Windows and Mac PCs. When you set up the software, it will ask you for your model of ebook reader, and will suggest sending the books by email.

Once you set up the software, Calibre, do the following:

  • Click on “Add books,”
  • Pick out the free ebook files you’ve downloaded. They’ll appear in the Calibre library.
  • Click on an entry in your Calibre library and choose “convert books” from the top bar. In the upper right hand corner, make sure the “output format” is “MOBI.” Click OK, and wait until the “Jobs” number at the lower right of the main screen goes from 1 down to 0.
  • Now select the title again and click “Save to disk.”
  • Pick the folder you want to save it in. It’ll create a sub-folder with the name of the author. In Explorer or Finder, drill into that folder until you find the Mobi file within, which you can email to your Kindle or drag and drop onto it using a USB cable.

I hope you found this post on how to get free ebooks for Kindle helpful.I wish you many hours of reading.

Feel free to share your thoughts below.

What is in The Art of the Deal Book in Kindle

Latest posts by Rodney (see all)

What is in The Art of the Deal
The Art of the Deal – DJ Trump with T Swartz

I am sure you would like to know about what is in The Art of the Deal book. Well, get a Kindle version or the hard copy to read about the deal-maker himself, Donald Trump.

Well, as the title suggests, it is about business acumen and how to “deal” in the business world.

The Art of the Deal was written in 1987 and it reached number 1 on The New York Times Bestseller list. The book enjoyed this position for 13 weeks, and altogether held a position on the list for 48 weeks.

There has been a lot of controversy about the Art of the Deal book’s authorship. The co-author and journalist, Tony Schwartz, has indicated that he regrets his involvement in helping Trump in writing this book, also asserted that Trump had played no role in the actual writing of The Art of the Deal book.

Trump, while on the presidential campaign trail reminded his audiences of his business-related acumen and authorship. We all know that when a celebrity or political figure comes out with a memoir or autobiographical title, it’s not untypical that a ghost writer does all the heavy lifting.

Leaving the authorship issue aside, it will be good to get a sense of what is in the Art of the Deal book. Here’s a summary:

Summary of The Art of the Deal

This book, available on Kindle reveals how Trump operates his business, his personal life and much more. He is very intentional about meeting the people he needs to meet and shows how he interacts with family and friends, clashes with enemies and how he challenges conventional thinking.

According to the author, Trump has come up with time-tested guidelines for success. “He isolates the common elements in his greatest accomplishments; he shatters myths; he names names, spells out the zeros, and fully reveals the deal-maker’s art. And throughout, Trump talks—really talks—about how he does it. Trump: The Art of the Deal is an unguarded look at the mind of a brilliant entrepreneur—the ultimate read for anyone interested in the man behind the spotlight.”

You can read The Art of the Deal in any of the following Kindles. Kindle Oasis, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Voyager, Kindle Fire, Kindle, 6″ E Ink Display

Media Commendations on The Art of the Deal

“Trump makes one believe for a moment in the American dream again.”—The New York Times

“Donald Trump is a deal maker. He is a deal maker the way lions are carnivores and water is wet.”—Chicago Tribune

“Fascinating . . . wholly absorbing . . . conveys Trump’s larger-than-life demeanor so vibrantly that the reader’s attention is instantly and fully claimed.”—Boston Herald

“A chatty, generous, chutzpa-filled autobiography.”—New York Post

Donald Trump

“I like thinking big. I always have. To me it’s very simple: If you’re going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big.”

Mandela Long Walk to Freedom in Kindle

Mandela Long Walk to FreedomMandela Long Walk to Freedom? My knowledge of Nelson Mandela was very limited. Why?

As you may have known during the apartheid era in South Africa, the South African apartheid government barred any literature about Nelson Mandela and the liberation forces from reaching its citizens. The organization, African National Congress of which Nelson Mandela was a member was banned.

When I received a gift from a close friend, like so many, I was curious to find out about the gift. And so I opened the wrapping, and found out that it was a book, Long Walk to Freedom. Prior to this, I longed to know about Nelson Mandela.

Well all that era ended in 1994. South Africans now have access to previously banned literature.

The world has seen some incredible leaders over the centuries and Nelson Mandela is one of those incredible leaders. I had the privilege of being in his presence in 1994 when he visited my home town of Chatsworth.

The local stadium was the venue and since the seats in the stadium were full, I was directed to sit on the field. When he entered the stadium, he walked onto the field and there I was a few meters away from this iconic world famous leader.

He addressed the crowd and I must say that I was inspired by his speech. When I returned home that evening, I could not stop talking about my experience. A few weeks later when I received the book titled Long Walk to Freedom, I got stuck into it.

Autobiography of Nelson Mandela

When I first looked at the book, the size and weight of this volume was daunting. After reading the first two or three chapters, I was tempted to give up. I am glad I did not as it started to get really good. I began getting a clearer picture of his life.

The first half of the book is about his upbringing and path into politics.

It was one the best books I have read. Without giving much away, here’s how the autobiography of Nelson Mandela is described on amazon.com:

Nelson Mandela is one of the great moral and political leaders of our time: an international hero whose lifelong dedication to the fight against racial oppression in South Africa won him the Nobel Peace Prize and the presidency of his country. Since his triumphant release in 1990 from more than a quarter-century of imprisonment, Mandela has been at the center of the most compelling and inspiring political drama in the world. As president of the African National Congress and head of South Africa’s anti-apartheid movement, he was instrumental in moving the nation toward multiracial government and majority rule. He is revered everywhere as a vital force in the fight for human rights and racial equality.

It goes on to state that the Mandela LONG WALK TO FREEDOM is his moving and exhilarating autobiography, destined to take its place among the finest memoirs of history’s greatest figures. Here for the first time, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela tells the extraordinary story of his life–an epic of struggle, setback, renewed hope, and ultimate triumph.

I cannot agree more with the above review. The Mandela Long Walk to Freedom book not only inspired me but helped shape my understanding as a leader.

What did I learn about the Mandela Long Walk to Freedom?

Here are a few of my learnings:

• How deeply apartheid had ingrained racism not just on to the white minority, but onto the attitudes and assumptions throughout the whole of the South African society
• It gave me a profound understanding of the struggle and the historical events leading to the eventual demise of the apartheid era.
• That love wins and that nothing conquers the human spirit
• How to face trials with class and strength.
• The power of forgiveness and how this aligned with my faith understanding of forgiveness.
• The joy that can be found in the simple things in life

I could go on and on in sharing what I have learned from Mandela Long Walk to Freedom book, I hope you will read the book for yourself.

Nelson Mandela in the movie, Invictus

When the movie Invictus about Nelson Mandela was released, I made sure I go and watch the movie. In fact I watched the movie three times. Here’s a synopsis of this movie:

The film tells the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela joined forces with the captain of South Africa’s rugby team to help unite their country. Newly elected President Mandela knows his nation remains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies South Africa’s rugby team as they make their historic run to the 1995 Rugby World Cup Championship match. – Written by alfiehitchie

This movie, just like the book Mandela Long Walk to Freedom exceeded all my expectations. Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman did South Africa and Nelson Mandela proud. It shows again, the iconic Mandela demonstrating how a leader should lead.

There are other books about the autobiography of Nelson Mandela but none come close to Mandela Long Walk to Freedom book. I also love the movie, Invictus as it captures the essence of who Mandela was and his leadership skills and abilities.

Replace Old Kindle With New

Latest posts by Rodney (see all)

Replace Old Kindle With NewReplace old Kindle with new? Let me tell you why. Before I tell you this, you will remember that in April of this year, the giant e-commerce online company released its 8th edition, the Kindle Oasis. When I looked at it’s price, I heard many comment about how expensive it was. It is a good edition to have if you have the money and want to enjoy it’s great features.  If $290 for the Kindle Oasis is out of your reach, then there’s good news.

When you’ve owned Kindles for two or three years you’ll find yourself wondering whether or not  you should I replace them.

If you want to get a cheaper basic Kindle or the Kindle Paperwhite, they are on their way. If you own one of them, you can replace them with new models.

Why Replace Old Kindle with new?

Personally I like replacing older digital devices with new ones. There are so many advantages to doing this. For me when I hear that there is going to more storage space, I welcome this. But let’s look at other reasons why replace old kindle with new.

If you like a color change, then this is for you. You will notice that the biggest difference in the upgraded model is probably in the color options – these models will now be available in ivory white.

These newer models will also be thinner and lighter, with more rounded edges. The Kindle still has the lower-res 167 ppi touchscreen, while the Paperwhite has the sharper 300 ppi touchscreen with lighting. As far as storage is concerned, both will now have 4 GB on the device.

One great new feature to both updated Kindles is Bluetooth connectivity. Now those who are blind can use these new models as amazon added this feature specifically for those with blindness — using Amazon’s VoiceView feature.

With Bluetooth eBooks can be read aloud over a speaker like an audiobook, which is great for books that haven’t gotten the audiobook treatment.

You can also purchase the Paperwhite in an accessibility bundle that includes an audio adapter for the micro USB port.

According to amazon, the new Amazon Kindle will be available on July 7. The starting price will be at $80 for the ad-supported Wi-Fi-only model. The new Kindle Paperwhite will be available on June 30 starting at $120.

To replace an old Kindle with new makes sense as they now have 4 GB storage and with Bluetooth connectivity, it adds a voice feature that turns the Kindle into an audio-book. According to Amazon, here’s additional features:

  • All-new design is thinner and lighter.
  • Easy on your eyes – touchscreen display reads like real paper
  • No screen glare, even in bright sunlight, unlike tablets
  • Single battery charge lasts weeks, not hours
  • No alerts or notifications so you can get lost in your story
  • Holds thousands of books – choose from new releases and bestsellers, or from over a million titles at $2.99 or less
  • Try Kindle Unlimited free for 30 days – includes over 1 million titles

New KindleThere is a new Kindle. Amazon has announced it’s newest Kindle.I believe given it’s features and benefits, it is the best Kindle to buy. It has the following features:

It’s Features

It has new design that is thinner and lighter. It is 11% thinner and 16% lighter than the previous generation Kindle. What is cool about this Kindle is that it is designed makes it easy and comfortable to hold in one hand.

It is also available in colors black or white. Another important feature is that it is easy on your eyes and reads like real paper. According to amazon, Kindle uses actual ink particles and proprietary, hand-built fonts to create crisp text. You will notice that it similar to what you see in a physical book.

I also like this Kindle because there is no screen glare, even in bright. If you have other tables, it cannot compare with this Kindle. You will also not receive e-mail alerts and notifications so that you can read without any of these disturbances.

Best Kindle to BuyIt’s Benefits

Recent studies have shown that evening exposure to blue light from back-lit screens like tablets and smartphones affects one’s health. Blue light from back-lit screens can suppress the body’s production of melatonin, a naturally occurring hormone that helps the body fall asleep. Now when you want to read at night, you do not have to worry about this because the Kindle display emits no light, you can read anytime without losing sleep.

I also believe this is the best Kindle to buy because of it’s benefit to the eyes. You will notice the reflective glare on tablets and smart phones screens but with this Kindle, it eliminates glare in any setting—even direct sunlight.

This Kindle holds thousands of books – choose from new releases and bestsellers, or from over a million titles at $2.99 or less. You canb also try Kindle Unlimited free for 30 days – includes over 1 million titles.

It has a long battery life. It lasts weeks, not hours. It is said that Kindle doesn’t need power to maintain a page of text. That means that it allows you to read for weeks on a single charge.

What is the best Kindle to buy, it is this. It cost $79.99 and it is all book, no glare and zero distractions. As someone who is concerned about the effects of blue light on the eyes, this Kindle is good for eye health.
